The Mark on Elvis' Bare Back

During the time Pacer (Elvis) started fighting the Kiowas after they wounded his brother, there is sort of a mark on the upper right part of Elvis' back, shaped as a long line pointing this way /. It doesn't look like any kind of a wound to me, do you suppose that could be Elvis' actual birthmark or something?
Or was it just makeup to portray a supposed wound?

I haven't seen this movie in years but thought it was one of elvis' better flicks as a kid having seen most of them, but I recall he was wearing a leather strap across his shoulder for some reason, could that be it????

In my opinion.
For the sake of continuity, the mark on Elvis' upper right backside certainly looks like it was intended to look like a wound.
(Red, in the shape of an irregular upside down Y, like multiple slashes.)

It's intended to be a wound. Looks a little bizarre, but it is certainly supposed to be a bloody wound.
