Does the husband know?

Kitty's husband looked very weird when she came back home. The letter was also shown to be open when he throws it in the fire. So I am assuming he knows and doesn't want to confront her.

I think he knew but he realized that because she came back so early, she couldn't go through with it.

She was definitely gone long enough for something to have happened. I think it's the fact she came back at all that made him realize she didn't leave him for good. He had his flaws too; he knew she did not like his constant gambling.

When he read the note he probably thought about that and wished he had been a better husband. When she returns, he knows it means she's chosen him. I have to assume he'll try to make sure she doesn't regret her decision and will avoid continuing to take her for granted.

Woman, man! That's the way it should be Tarzan. [Tarzan and his mate]

That's how I took it, too. The envelope was definitely open, so he must have read the letter, but wanted her to think he hadn't.
