Ummm, They're All Terrorists or Sympathizers

It's hard to get excited about the trials & tribulations of what are basically a bunch of terrorists. Even Paul Newman's character ends up killing in a big jail break to free what was basically Israel's Osama Bin Laden. If this was done nowadays the Sal Mineo character would be an Iraqi "freedom fighter" trying to blow up US jeeps on the road to Mosul.

reply

I'd be interested in hearing the story of an Iraqi terrorist. I hope I live long enough and in a free enough society for such a movie to be made down the line. Hell, some fine movies have already been made slightly on subject. Leon Uris wrote a fine book from the Palestinian perspective called The Hajj. If the middle-east ever settles into a renaissance, I imagine there will be plenty of profound stories without political bias in any direction.

I agree its hard to watch a movie from a period or context that doesn't have the same sense of justice shared now. If Exodus were remade it'd surely have a more bitter/sweet anti-climax.

The moral relativism displayed by some (many? most?) contributors to this board is nothing short of astounding.

reply

Moral Relativism be damned. The Jews escaped Hitler's ovens to be greated by another enemy declaring they will be butchered and thrown into the sea. Needless to say, that enemy failed, but is starting to succeed thanks to the appeasers and anti-Semites who pose as diplomats. Nice to see those soft bellies have a representation on this site.

Exodus re-done? NO! I am sooooo sick of remakes with every leftist slant you can imagine.

Manchurian Candidate sucked,
War of The Worlds, sucked,
What else can the drones of Hollywood make?

Leon Uris would be pissed off if he were alive and heard this crap.

I do not understand why the Jews think they are "entitled" to someone else's land. Is that not stealing? Doesn't the Bible/Torah teach not to steal?

Seems to me that Israel should not exist. It should still be Palestine.

And the Jews should be living in Canada, the European Union, or the United States. Why create a separate homeland? ALL three of these nations support freedom of religious expression. The Jews are welcome to live side-by-side with Christians, Muslims, Mormons, et cetera.

reply

That would be nice, if the Jews really WERE welcome to live side by side with Christians and Muslims. But even in the unusually tolerant neighborhood I grew up in, we weren't. As I child, I was once mob-beaten at a secular camp for my religion. The all-Christian country club next to the synagogue tried to have the synagogue closed. Our annual JCC parade was always picketed by Muslims screaming slurs at us. The Jewish camp couldn't put its address on its mailings and flyers for fear of attempted bombings or attacks. There are only so many times you can stand to hear the words "Christ-killer" applied to you before you snap. And this was in a community with a large Jewish population, mind. When I went to most other places in the country, it was worse.

There are Muslim nations, Christian nations, a Hindu nation, and Buddhist nations. Most of the Christian nations have been stolen from others, but I don't hear any calls to return them. Yet a religion with only one homeland for which they have been striving for over two thousand years is condemned of thievery...out of ignorance.

In 1948, Israel was created out of only HALF of Palestine. The other half remained Palestinian land. Palestinians were welcome to stay in Israel, but most of them joined their brethren in Palestine and the other Arab nations in attacking the new state of Israel. It wasn't until 1967 that Israel annexed the rest of Palestine...after being attacked YET AGAIN. It was clear cut self defense by any military standard.

Seems to me that you ought to learn your history before you make accusations, troy.

Tough sh!t. You just need to learn to roll with the punches elsinora.lol

reply

uh israel also used violence to bully many palestinians into leaving (Deir Yassin); and Ben gurion fully intended to break partition eventually

reply

They weren't allowed in before the Holocaust, Troy. That's why 6 million died. Further, Jews have been living there for roughly 3400 years. A separate homeland is required to protect us against ignoramuses like yourself.

Well, hindsight is 20/20. Looking back now, it makes no sense the way the UN and the allied forces handled the matter.

Germany should have been forced to give up land for the Jewish population, after all, their country was the source of most of the conflict against them. There's really no practical reason why Palestine should have been given to them.

Modern nations have a habit of coddling people they conquer for some reason. I really can't understand that.

reply

The point is that Israel is there and will probably stay there barring any major attack from Iran. I truly don't believe that the Palestinians will be happy with just the west bank and Gaza.

They want the whole Enchilada if you ask me.

It's entirely possible that this:

may be true, Balberith, but the two-state solution (the only safe, sane and sensible solution to the decades-old I/P debacle.) will have to happen eventually, and the Palestinians will have to accept having only West Bank, Gaza Strip and East Jerusalem as their own, independent, sovereign nation-state.

Only time will tell.

Cut the crap will you. Children in Israel are taught to write "messages of Peace and love" on rockets, etc to Palestinian civilians and then you wonder why
there's some much resentment to Israel and Zionists nowadays. Spare us your enternal victim crap.

reply

Which rockets would these be? The Katyusha rockets launched by Hezbollah at Northern Israel (concentrating on urban areas Haifa, Metullah and Ma'alot)? Maybe the Qassam rockets launched at the southern Israeli town of Sderot by Hamas, little more than a year after Gaza was vacated by the Israelis in an attempt at a peace treaty?

Israeli children are never let anywhere near rockets (that would be unsafe). I'd ask where your evidence of this retarded claim is, if I hadn't seen the rest of your posts on IMDB and saw that you make up facts constantly. People like you make Hamas look like moderates.

reply

So they should have given the Jews a homeland in Germany. What the hell did the Palestinians have to do with the Holocaust?

reply

Well said JMongrel!

Let me say this, JMongrel71: Many of the Arabs, too, helped the Nazis do their dirty work.

I'll tell everybody what else is possibly in the re-making: Stephen Spielberg has indicated that he's interested in doing a re -make of the film West Side Story. Imho, that would be a total disaster for all kinds of reasons, but equally importantly, a re-make of this great, golden oldie-but-keeper of a classic would just cut the heart and soul right out of it. This classic film is what it is, and should be left alone. As the expression goes:
If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Since the previous post is written by a person whose mind is totally closed to rational discusssion, the negative comments regarding "Manchurian Candidate" and "War of the Worlds" provide an irresistably strong argument in their favor. I will be seeing them at the earliest opportunity.

Israel is a very good friend and ally to America. Its tax money well spent in my opinion!
