Great film!

Burt Lancaster is peerless. This is a tour-de-force performance! One of his finest in a career with MANY great performances.
Patti Page is in this film! Yes, the singer. Yes, she sings.
Shirley Jones is also in the film, but we don’t see her until the film is 2/3 over. She gives a solid performance. No singing though, alas. It wouldn’t have fit her character.
Jean Simmons has the lead female role. I wasn’t expecting much from her, as I feel she’s usually a light-weight actress, but she was really good! Probably her best role.
The storyline is a bit dated, so keep that in mind while watching.
