Why no sequel?

The movie ends in chapter 15 of a 29-chapter book. Is the anti-climax really that uninteresting?

We saw the sequel today on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial.

With that many preachers in one place, statistically it's a safe bet that there were some Elmer Gantry types. How many and which ones is hard to say unless their sins are made public.

What does that mean? It looked like our kindergarten picnic to me. No fire and brimstone. No miracles, laying on of hands. Just a bunch of families having a nice day out.
