Why did I like this but not 8 1/2 or I Vitelloni?

Everyone says how Fellini is a genius and a great storyteller, so I watched a few of his movies. I didn't understand them fully by any means but I think La Dolce Vita was miles better than 8 1/2 and I Vitelloni. As far as I'm concerned, there's no question about it. But so many people say 8 1/2 is his masterpiece, and people sure do love all Fellini's movies equally it seems. I just think La Dolce Vita was more entertaining, more atmospheric, more mysterious (to me), and just really interesting to watch. 8 1/2 was so boring! And there was nothing that held my interest with me. Is it because it was much more challenging and deep? Cos like I said, I didn't get both movies but I still loved La Dolce Vita, from what I got from it.
