Like a Russian Edith Wharton

This is a beautiful film.
Watching it made me think of various Edith Wharton stories: late 19th Century characters stuck in unhappy marriages and their fear of social ostracism due to divorce.

Both Chekhov & Wharton shared similar themes and writing styles. They lived during the same time period, although Chekhov sadly died much earlier than Wharton. Wharton finally became emancipated and independent, whereas Chekhov never did.
