SPOILER inside: Just watched this movie for the first time

It's a long time ago. Sixty years in fact. But if you've never seen this movie before, I have a spoiler....haha...

.....I was shocked Nan was killed so soon into the movie. I had her down as someone who would last till the end. I was also shocked she saw her teacher's face (Christopher Lee) just as the knife was plunged into her. So she knew he had trapped her.

The movie lost pace after that, I thought. It had a disappointing ending. Also, most of the actors only made one or two movies after this one. I can't see the leading man (the hero) was very good at acting. The only true star was Lee.

I was surprised by what happened to Nan, too. But a nice edit at that point in the film cutting away to the cake.

I enjoyed it, even if it was a very low budget work, it had plenty of spooky scenes and was very well directed. 7/10

It's pretty similar to what happens in Psycho which is also released in 1960.

You can’t be talking about City of the Dead (aka Horror Hotel). The clock chiming, the heroine almost done in, and the cross getting closer and closer is one of the most rousing endings ever.

I thought the brother Barlow was great. The witch was also a good actress.

It’s nice to see a movie where the witches are 1) real and 2) really evil, and not another metaphor for poor misunderstood social pariahs or whatever.
