What the priest says before dying

Just before his granddaughter gets kidnapped by the cult, the priest tells her that she is not to see "that young man" anymore, explaining that "the devil comes in many forms". Who is he referring to? This is just after Richard Barlow leaves, but he's the protagonist. I was expecting a twist (i.e. he's in on the cult) but that never happened. Aside from Barlow, the only other young man in town is Nan's boyfriend, who also is not a cultist.
