Cushing was perfect for the role

They should have just made him the title charcter here.
Maybe focused more on his vamp killings going from town to town.

I also love Peter Cushing as Van Helsing. When I first learned that a Van Helsing movie was being made, I was stoked, until I realized that it would star Hugh Jackman and be a silly action movie. I like Hugh Jackman, but Van Helsing is supposed to be a scholar rather than an action hero.

They should have made a sequel or two about traveling vampire hunter, with Monlaur´s Marianne as his wife. He could have meet a female vampire next, either gorgeously elegant old woman like Baroness here, or stunning beauty a´la Hazel Court, living in the exquisite castle.

Agreed! If Christopher Lee really was determined not to reprise the role of Dracula (although there are conflicting accounts of why he did not appear in Brides), surely this film should have convinced Hammer that there was a viable chain of sequels featuring Cushing as Van Helsing? Certainly Kiss of the Vampire and Dracula Prince of Darkness (even with Lee back as the Count) would have benefited from the presence of Van Helsing as the vampires' adversary.

Yes, he was great for that role. He was able to make the character seem incredibly smart and understanding. his Van Helsing is someone I would want to have on my side during an emergency because he always seemed to have all the answers and knew exactly what to do.
