Field steals the film.

This is not a good movie, but I couldn't help but enjoy it. Decently-made trash with glimmers of actual, serious drama here and there. Fine cast and performances. Taylor is great, Harvey is beautiful, and Field, despite scant screen time, walks away with the film as Dunnock's smart-ass best friend.

She deserved an Oscar for her "relationship" with Dunnock's cute little doggie alone.

And the climax is *amazing*.

Trashy fun, I'm glad I finally saw it, especially for Field.

I'm no authority on Betty Field's career, but I haven't seen anything with her in which I didn't thoroughly enjoy her performance - and in varying roles across many years - Kings Row, The Shepherd of The Hills (with Harry Carey Sr and John Wayne), Butterfield 8, all the way up to and including Coogan's Bluff. A fine and funny actress!
