What do you think of the Gene Youngblood commentary?

This is on the criterion disc. A few commenters seem to quote parts of it verbatim. Personally I thought he had the characters and the point of the story pegged quite well but his 'translations' of so much of the imagery into conceptual subtext felt a bit arbitrary to me. Also he assumed a pat one dimensional position was all that needed to be considered in terms of it's politics of class (ie "these people just need jobs").

I enjoyed the commentary, especially parts where Youngblood warns the viewer not to seek too much hidden meaning in various sections of the film. He was very knowledgeable about Antonioni and about cinema in general. The only problem I had was with Youngblood's delivery. He tends to sound monotonous for the entire length of the commenary and might prove to be a challenge for some viewers.
