I would just like to ask why Adolph Deutsch got the Oscar for Best Score when in fact, the great theme (on piano) was actually composed by British composer Charles Williams back in 1949 (and he received NO credit on Wilder's film)?
I would also like to know how and why Williams' theme was chosen and by whom?
None of the books on Wilder mention this curious fact.
I see listed in the awards that he was nominated, but did he win?
Anyway, he was nominated for "best soundtrack or recording" of a musical score. I imagine that is sort of like the arrangement of it, as well as the use of the instruments and such? It's beautiful. I love it. It contributes greatly to the movie.
Sort of like why would people think the brother Carpenter was needed in the The Carpenters, when Karen's phenomenal voice was the reason for their success? Because it was the brother's arrangements, double dubbing, and innovations that made their music special. He didn't write the songs, though.
