I haven't seen the movies you mentioned; they sound like fairly recent releases. I have seen a few older movies over the years that I thought were pretty good and much more interesting than this one. Sadly, none of the titles come to mind at the moment. Clearly I wasn't around during the war so I can't claim one movie's better than others at depicting what really happened but that's not how I judge these movies.
I judge any movie based on how effective the filmmakers were as far as pulling me into the world of the story. I watch movies to be entertained but if the movie deals with a particular issue I should come away having learned something about that issue. The movie was, after all, made for a reason.
The writer, director, and even the actors probably had something to say. I want to feel I know the time and place in which the movie is set. I want to know the characters and feel I am experiencing what they experienced. That's what makes me care about the subject matter and characters. It's what stirs my emotions and makes me want to know more.
Woman, man! That's the way it should be Tarzan. [Tarzan and his mate]
