Much better than late spring imo

Late Spring wasn't bad, I gave it 7/10, but I agree Late Autumn is better.

By the way, it annoys me how similarly Ozu named all his movies. It's hard to distinguish one from another. Love his movies but he should have titled them differently.

I can certainly see why people say that. This film is much more light hearted, while not neglecting the dramatic moments, and it also includes quite a bit of humor. There are more interesting characters as well. Since Ozu never really made a bad film, including this one, your rating of this film makes sense. I rated it a 9/10 too.

Your view on Late Spring, however, is surprising. It is probably Ozu's most emotionally devastating film and in his top 2 or 3 in terms of quality. A definite 10/10 for me, and one of his greatest masterpieces.
