Writing a comparison paper on this + remake,

& I have a question.

*****spoilers ahead****

In the remake, the 13 ghosts have a specific purpose..each one is a role necessary to complete the ocularis infernum, but in the original what is the significance of having 13 ghosts?
I know he said that they stay on earth to settle business & that's why Zorba sought revenge on Ben, but is thirteen just a random number chosen?

In another topic someone named the 13 ghosts but I mean isn't that just a wild guess from the pictures? In the remake Cyrus had to capture each because he was trying to finish basilius's design, but in the original was the Uncle just capturing them to capture them?

Sorry, this paper is just giving me a headache because I'm confused.

As with other remakes, the 2001 movie shared only the name with this version as they both were almost completely different. While the protagonists in both were stuggling financially and needed a break, this is where the similarities end. With the ghosts in this movie they didn't serve any real purpose as the ghosts in the remake did. Uncle Zorba just collected them because he was into the occult. Cyrus had alterior motives.

I don't know that it every said really, but I assumed it was just playing on one of the most common superstitions, Triskaidekaphobia (fear of the number 13). Seems the #13 conjures a bit of fear in some people so I think the name of the movie and plot having 13 in it was just more effective than say a movie called 15 Ghosts.

Pure speculation though.

Post your paper when you finish, I'd like to read it.

Wholly Shed! I bet it is too late right now... But, if it is not and you come here... Why don't you get the original and watch ti closely?

Well I think he would have continued to collect ghost if he didn't come to realize that he would be murdered and another, would die too and forever be in the house.
But I am not sure.

hope your report 3 years ago was rewarding, too bad you haven't returned to post it for us.

This is the used car saleman of independent films of the 1950's and 1960's William Castle. The title is the sales pitch, would 12 Ghosts seem as scary ? All of his films have a "Hook".
