This was a movie that under now standards would suck!

The special effects were nothing! The story looked like a 10 year old wrote it!I seen scarey movies from the 60s and this does not measure up!

reply

So how would you have made it better? I actually enjoyed it pretty well, although it was more suspenseful than scary.

reply

I saw it as a young child and it scared the heck out of me. Yes, today it wouldn't scare this generations kids. There's no blood, gore, hacked up body part or tits and ass. I feel sorry for today's kids and teens.

reply

What are you talking about? A ghost has his head hacked off twice! (even though it was the same shot shown twice)

if they didn't show the same clips again and again, it might have been a more respected film. This doesn't even come close to measuring up to Night Of The Living Dead, Psycho, and House on Haunted Hill scares.

I think you are just nostalgic, and it has nothing to do with us being young like you said in another post. It was just very badly made. The kid was adorable, his sister is a hottie and it was fun to see the wicked witch of the west in it, but that's it.

reply

That's not all there is otherwise Turner Classic Movies wouldn't show it every year for Halloween.

reply

When I saw it on TV as a kid in the 1960's, I thought it was nothing then. A nice cast wasted on a movie that was a bore. I've seen alot better during that era on a lower budget!

I've seen alot better during that era on a lower budget!

And I've seen PLENTY worse since done on much much bigger budgets, so what's their excuse?

reply

To each his own, folks. This is one of my favorite movies and I love to watch it around Halloween time!

For those who don't "get" William Castle shenanigans and their lighthearted, playful fun, I feel sorry. Sure, this movie is pointless--and that's part of the point of it. It is basically a spookhouse ride on film. Thrills, chills and spooks.

reply

And it would STILL get better reviews than that horrible remake did.

Carl: I stabbed him 37 times in the chest
Paul: Carrlll that KILLS people!

reply

Amen to that.

reply

It had great potential, but it just fizzled out. It got boring and predictable when it should have been scary. It's not that bad, but it's just not good. The best thing going for it are the inventions and showmanship of the director

reply

You "seen"?

reply

I'll admit it isn't the best horror movie ever by any stretch of the imagination, but I don't think it's supposed to be some classic fot the ages. I think it's just supposed to be a fun horror movie strictly for entertainment. Not all movies are made to be masterpieces, some are just made for enjoyment and not to be taken so seriously. I was entertained thoroughly by this film.

Come, fly the teeth of the wind. Share my wings.

reply

I still loved and appreciated this movie even though classic horror doesn't do much for me.

reply

When I first saw the original 13 GHOSTS as a child it spooked the hell out of me. Sure, now it's just silly fun, like a small Halloween party where not all the pranks come off, yet you're glad you went anyway.

But it's the atmosphere. It has to do with the era.

Let me guess. You're 15 or younger. You should not post about classic horror. You are entirely ignorant of it.

reply

That's a lousy thing to say. I'm 35 now, but as a kid, I tried watching as much horror as I could, whether it be modern, for the 80's, or stuff from the 70's or 60's. Generalizing people into this stereotype adds nothing to the conversation and makes you come off like a moron. Who the hell do you think you are to tell people when they are allowed to post about any topic? Kids take up unique things when they are younger, and there are some that probably know more about classic horror than you. You come off a tad pompous and condescending, so enjoy your high horse. This movie is adequate for it's time frame, but let's not pretend that this is Psycho. By today's standards, this doesn't stand up well, but that's fine too. I would really like to read your book about classic horror since you are so well versed and knowledgeable on the topic. I'll be waiting for ya.
