First season - so far, soooo bad

I am up to episode 8 or 9 now. They are all awful, trite and just a lot of talking heads.

The one with Mary Astor at least had a plot and a great star.

I had to stop at the episode whree I guess the guy is a spy and a psycho with blonde hair tries to run him off the road while making idiotic faces.

IMDB say the series began with crummy crime stories and then moved into spooky stuff.

When does that begin?

And are any of these crime 'dramas' worth watching?

Thx!

I enjoyed the crime ones for what they're worth; they do get kinda monotonous after several, though. Stick with it...episode 7, "The Purple Room" is the first all-out supernatural one, and they start to get more supernatural from there. Starting with episode 15, "The Cheaters", you're pretty much all set.

This is Stevie Wayne, your nightlight, and KAB, Antonio Bay, California is on the air.

Thx for your reply.

I was about 10 or 12 y/o when these first ran, (didn't see them.....must have been on too late) so I know what TV looked like and how it could be good or bad....and still...so far....just about all the episodes are near unwatchable.

Even when they have stars in them like Jack Carson (a fave of mine) I cant sit through these things.

I got up to the William Shatner episode last night. So much filler. The scene in his makeshift dark room went on and on.

The episode THE POISONER - too silly.

I noticed that what they have done was merely substitute some horror story for the crime ones? Isn't THE CHEATERS basically just another crime story with weird glasses?

I'll keep watching, but this is the only series were I am watching multiple episodes in a sitting and finally saying - "I can't deal with these any more." (Actually the first season of ROUTE 66 is not very good, either)

You are the first person I've read on about who has said the first season of Route 66 is bad. LOL!

We can DO IT ALLLL DAY LONG, (We'll have to pay more for the light bill if we do it at night!)

Yes you should notice a huge shift toward horror after a dozen episodes. I didn't really mind the crime ones but the shift to the supernatural really put this series on the map. Once the shift took hold, crime dramas were the pretty rare.BTW my least fave was the very last episode, which was also a crime drama.

Episodes like "The Hungry Glass", "The Grim Reaper" and "Pigeons From Hell" really stick in your head.

Hi galaxy being -

That's an OUTER LIMITS reference as I recall.

Yes - I have seen a few references that say the series git better around episode 8 or 12 or whatever, but I am not seeing it. It's still all these complaining families and relationship dramas with spooky things substituted for crime stuff.

It's so formula and I have yet to be 'scared' or even jittery.

I saw HUNGRY GLASS last night - the Shatner episode, right. Turns out he is a nut case just like in NIGHTMARE AT 20k FEET. (I think he was a not job in his FUGITIVE episode, too.) It didn't work for me at all....and that dreadful 50s suburban repartee with the other couple. Awful filler.

I have not seen the other two yet, but getting close.

Have to knock the talking head Gary whatever. Every few sentences he audibly smacks his lips. Lord! Haha! It's like listening to a guy drinking coffee and going "AHHHHH" after each sip or swallow.

Thx for your reply.

(AHHHHHHHHH!!!!) :)

Well, if you got to THE CHEATERS and didn't like it, I don't think you'll care too much for any of these episodes. I thought that was one of the best. Some of my other favorites include THE GRIM REAPER, DIALOGUES WITH DEATH, GUILLOTINE, THE MERRIWEATHER FILE, TRIO FOR TERROR, THE INCREDIBLE DOCTOR MARKESAN, AN ATTRACTIVE FAMILY, THE LAST OF THE SOMMERVILLES, and A GOOD IMAGINATION.

I remember THE HUNGRY GLASS absolutely terrifying me as a child! Not sure how I would react to it today. Have to check Utube ....
