Did these guys have jobs?

Don't get me wrong... I have the "director's selection" or whatever it's called, featuring eleven of the top episodes, and I enjoy it quite a bit. In fact, I think I'm going to watch a couple episodes this week.

But how do these guys afford to spend their whole lives just driving all over the country and getting caught up in other peoples' business? Did they do a bunch of odd jobs along the way, or what?

reply

They were drifters. Like Kramer on Seinfeld

reply

Kramer never drifted, except for when he took off for California.๐Ÿ˜Ž

reply

He had a few jobs. :)

reply

They had jobs on nearly every episode.

reply

They picked up work where they could get it on their travels.

reply

I wish I could live the carefree open-road life of these two fellas.

reply

I can't imagine that it would be as easy these days.
It did look like one big adventure that I would have loved when I was young and single.

There are YouTube vloggers who do that. They're called RV nomads. It seems incredibly expensive, and other than having Pantheon accounts and what money they get from YouTube, they don't really say how they get their money to pay to live on the highway like that all year round.

reply

Really? I haven't heard of those people. Now you have me curious. How does one earn any sort of living like that? Perhaps, like Tod and Buzz, they pick up odd jobs along the way. It may be easier than we think. If they have the internet, they can check out the employment in any town along the way in advance. Everyone applies on line these days.
Another thing is seasonal work. In our area, there are canning plants that hire from June to October. There are Cranberry companys that hire in the fall..... Potatoes too, so that may be a source of income.

I know now, what you are talking about. My husband was watching these vloggs with the RV nomads last week. Many of them park and sleep in Walmart parking lots. Many of them panhandle too. That explains the way they get their money.๐Ÿ˜‰

Wow! I just recognized your name!
I was on the Perry Mason board today. Some guy named Diggy something or other was there.
I wasn't too keen on his attitude toward you, so I said something. It wasn't meant to make him feel bad. I was just exasperated with him. He was so miserable about the slow traffic on that board. I couldn't understand why he was talking to you the way he had. It seems to me that if you want more people, you try to be kind.
He got all upset and told me to ignore him! I don't ignore anyone. He deleted most of his posts on the Perry Mason board. Very strange character! Extremely thin skin. I didn't think I was being that unfriendly.
Oh well.... sorry I scared him off. I'll avoid him as much as possible.

reply

Yeah that was kind of weird.

If you saw it you weren't watching at all. Every episode they. had a new job in a new place. There are many logical flaws to the series, but this wasn't one of them. I don't get how you could watch 11 episodes and ask that question.

I believe Tod mentions in an early episode that his family is well off but his only asset is the Corvette. But basically they take odd jobs in the towns they visit. What is cool about the show is that they filmed the episodes on location around where the episode takes place. Although technically they arenโ€™t on Route 66 in most of their journeys.
