Nina Foch as guest star

I just watched season 2's 'A Bridge Across Five Days' where she plays a woman released from a mental institution. I thought she did a great job playing a sympathetic character.

Interesting that she was playing a 38 year old woman, and she was actually 38 when she made the episode. She has the most exquisite facial features. Her close-ups are phenomenal.

I see she returned a few more times, playing other characters on 'Route 66' in subsequent seasons.

I always remembered her for that episode, too, and followed a lot of her work clear up to her last role as Mrs. Mallard, Ducky's mother, on NCIS, in which she was marvelous playing a woman with dementia who changed with every sentence she spoke. Terrific actress.

In later years, she was a well-regarded acting teacher in Hollywood. One of her students was Fred Dryer, when he was transitioning from football to television stardom. In one of the final seasons of 'Hunter,' Nina Foch turns up as a faded actress (shades of Norma Desmond) involved in a case that Dryer's character investigates. It's obvious that he enjoyed having her on the program and practicing some of the techniques she undoubtedly taught him.

Nina Foch was one of those actresses from that time who could appear drab and plain in one episode and then beautiful and sexy in the next one. If it was a good role, she didn't mind not looking glamorous.

No blah, blah, blah!
