Boy losing leg to cancer

Was there an episode where a boy who loved baseball contracts cancer and loses his leg. It ends with his team dedicating the game to him, giving him the game ball, and saying look mom and dad we won.

I remember that. Seems like it was more of an After School special ripoff.

The boy slid into home plate and his leg hurt. They went to the doctor, told him he had cancer. I remember him saying the words, you mean you're going to cut my leg off?

A doctor gave them hope they could save the leg by replacing the bone, but a nerve couldn't be sacrificed, so he was back where he started.

He got mad at his parents. He was supposed to stay on crutches, but when he entered the garage, he threw the crutches down and took off on his bike to the doctor's office, a no-no. The doctor was upset when he found out the kid rode his bike.

There was a commercial break of the kid on the bike and we see a car behind him.

In the end, yea, he held up the baseball and declared, we won!

He was also singing Billy Don't Be A Hero in one scene, playing it on the guitar.

Don't know who any of the actors were.

It may have been an Insight, but it seems I saw this during the week, when After School specials aired, but it was clearly of a different make.

Well, I'm open to being corrected.

Chicken, with Jackie Earle Haley, also aired separately from Insight, as I remember it airing just at others times, it seems, even on different networks, tho I guess someone could pick it up if it were syndicated.

So the boy with cancer may have likewise been an Insight episode.
