IMDb message boards being axed
I'm sure everyone's seen the announcement by now. I can't even begin to say how gutted I am about the news.

While I will very much miss this site in some respects, I can certainly see their point in this: "... we have concluded that IMDb’s message boards are no longer providing a positive, useful experience for the vast majority."
There are some lovely posters on here (like yourself) but they are often swamped by others with some really nasty and horrible views, sometimes quite disturbing. I've been deliberately not posting over the last few weeks on this board and one other due to certain sensitive storylines because I've been metaphorically biting my lip at some of the comments and as much as I've enjoyed coming here, this place can be a cesspit at times.
Having said that, I think it's a bit of an extreme reaction to get rid of it. Unless they just haven't got the manpower to oversee the content and don't want to leave themselves open to some kind of law suit or the like. Don't know
RIP IMDb.
Thank you, Come_Play_With_Me. I take your point though, I've been the same and not been posting on this board as much as I used to. Like many of us here, I have a lot of users on ignore (the Prems mainly!). I already noped away from the Eastenders board a few years ago as it just wasn't the friendly experience it used to be when I first started posting there.
I will miss all the good folks though. I've even made actual friends on IMDb over the years who I never would have met if it wasn't for this place.
These boards have been a constant in my internet life that I never thought would disappear. There will definitely be a big, empty space in my daily web activity now.
I know, now it's sinking in, I'm actually feeling quite bereft
Hope that petition will turn it around.

shareI signed the petition too. Had no idea this was in the pipeline but trolls will now have to rely upon Twitter with their one-paragraph vitriol. The rest of us will have to regroup elsewhere

I met one of my best friends in the whole world on these message boards 10 years ago, and we don't communicate on here any more but by other more private means. So be assured there is life beyond these pages! I'm genuinely sad though, there's some great bantz on here. I guess I will have to work out Digital Spy, Reddit and Mumsnet

I'll miss these boards. IMDB was a great place to dicuss tv and film. I don't really watch soaps, but i would still look at the Corrie and Eastenders boards, to see what people had been saying. Some of the observations were actually hilarious.
I've technically been a member here for 5 years. I signed up and i must've forgotten about it. I've had a great 3 years on IMDB.

I too am gutted but parts of it have become somewhat of a cesspool and someone PM'd me on FB from IMDb's "Jaws" board using the very same word.
I haven't read all of the comments but assumed the bulk of the moderation was automated.
I am surprised it's lasted so long if this is not the case because we are talkig every video game, TV serialisation and film that was ever made having an accompanying message board. Some poor guy called Norman can't sit there for eternity deleting trolls' comments lol
The same thing happened when MSN culled off their Groups so every forum owner was left to find alternate free servers (myself included), and do a huge member and data transferal as well as getting accustomed to the new formats.

I've been saying to others on here to keep an eye on staggerstags' thread on the similar board alternative so if you feel inclined, join the forum mentioned and hopefully when the Corrie forum is made and linked up on there, that will be somewhere the refugees from this board can find safe haven! share

Aye, Darkshines, whether it's down to trolls, Amazon.com, or anything else - the genuine posters across the imdb boards deserved more respect than this.
shareYes siree, staggers, the site bosses are treating us all with sheer contempt here. We all know the boards aren't perfect at times and the trolling can be obnoxious but it's pretty good fun when it all comes together and everyone's having a laugh or discussing important things. These boards can be jolly useful too, for asking and answering questions, etc. I for one will be lost without it.
