So I continue to love this show but I have always been distracted by one thing. The houses on either side of Andy’s home look neglected and unpainted with rotting boards. Some rather randomly looking low barricades were next to the Hotel in town in a season 3 episode. Just baffles me the studio didn’t spend money for such a popular show. Maybe they thought it was reflective of small town life. Malcolm Meriwether really did need to “paint” Andy’s house.

Studios back then were really tight with money so the neglected look was the result of budget. Camp Henderson from TAGS brother show Gomer Pyle USMC made extensive use of Desilu Studio's office and commissary to show Camp Henderson HQ and mess hall. Star Trek used the "40 acres lot" to depict various locals including the village from "Return of the Archons" even though it had been shown a number of times as part of Virginia City from Bonanza.
