I just watched the first episode of The New Andy Griffith Show and thought the episode was very strange. Goober and Emmett leave Mayberry and visit Andy, but he's no longer Andy Taylor, he's now Andy Sawyer and he has a new family. Even Barney paid Andy a visit and was referred to by name, as was Emmett and Goober. It all seemed very bizarre.
Has anyone else seen this episode?

shareYes I watched two episodes recently. They were pretty good. Had the charm of the original and Andy didn't seem as uptight as he did in the later TAGS episodes. But yes, it was a bit twilight zonish to have Andy playing a different character but the supporting cast were the same. Maybe it would have been on the air longer if he remained Andy Taylor. He hooked up with a new wife and she had the kids already...
shareYes, the episodes weren't bad... I enjoyed the ones that I've seen, but I don't recall any other show doing this with established characters. Kind of surprising to see that Andy married Catwoman. :)
