Well, try to look at it from Helen's POV. He just invites Gloria on their date without talking to Helen first. Then he invites her to their dinner date the following night. Sure, Andy should be nice to her but not invite her on their dates without talking to Helen about it first!

Agreed! At times, Helen may not have been the most reasonable character, but in this case I think she was right and Andy was the one who was out of line.

Andy was being nice to a woman who had just broken up with her boyfriend. She was feeling sad and he just wanted to cheer her up.

Helen did have the right to be annoyed if Andy was bringing along a woman that he was interested in romantically. But in this case, i think Helen could have been a tad more understanding. She never seemed to put anyone else's feelings ahead of her own.

She could have said, "Okay Andy, I guess we can try to show her a good time and cheer her up. But don't spring a surprise like this on me AGAIN!" lol

Lol, oh, I agree, he should've definitely been nice, and I know he was just trying to cheer her up. What Andy should've done was say, "Helen, can I talk to you for a minute?" He would then take her in the living room and say he thinks they should invite Gloria to the movies with them to try and cheer her up. Had he done that, Helen probably would've been more understanding.

I do think she was wrong in the episodes, Dinner at Eight, Three Wishes For Opie, The Hollywood Party, and Andy's Rival. She was wrong in Andy's Rival because she said she could go out with whomever she wanted. They both can get pretty jealous at times, and they tend to overreact a lot. The reason I defend Helen so much is because everyone acts like she's the only one on this show who gets jealous. Andy, Barney, Thelma Lou, Opie, Aunt Bee, and Clara are all guilty of this as well.

Megan- I agree about most of the characters getting jealous!

One of my favorite episodes is the one where Opie has a crush on a classmate named Karen and she won't give him the time of day. Thelma Lou steps in to befriend Opie to make him feel better. They spend time together and Barney feels left out. He becomes boiling mad with jealousy as if a seven year old boy is his romantic rival! LOL

They all have their jealous moments. It's just that with Andy and Helen, they are supposed to be in a relationship. Helen often went ballisitic if Andy spoke to another woman. She was constantly suspicious. How could they have a relationship without trust?

In a much later color episode, Andy had to hide the fact that he was working with a woman lawyer so Helen wouldn't get angry. Lee Drake who was played by Whitney Blake turns out to be a good looking blonde . Andy has to break a date with Helen to travel to Raleigh to discuss an upcoming court case. It says a lot about the lack of trust in their relationship that after several years of dating, Andy still feels he has to lie when he was only WORKING with another woman.
