Barney in later seasons *Spoilers*

I loved Barney, but he started to grate on my nerves between seasons 3 & 5. He was just fine in seasons 1&2. He was best in season 1, I think.

The episodes where Barney gets on my nerves:

OPIE FLUNKS ARITHMETIC
Seriously, Opie's NOT his kid, and Andy and Helen would've helped him with his math.

A WIFE FOR ANDY
What is Barney's obsession with Andy getting married? Plus, the way he acted when Helen said she didn't plan on quitting her job if she got married. Andy didn't even care. Why should he?

THREE'S A CROWD
This is a season 2 episode, but he was still pretty annoying in this episode.

THE CASE OF THE PUNCH IN THE NOSE
How he got that feud started all over again.

CITIZEN'S ARREST
He's just childish throughout this whole episode!

Are there any others? Like I said, I loved Barney most of the time and found him hilarious, but these episodes he was just ridiculous!

I would have to agree with you. But overall he was awesome. I also liked all 5 of the color episodes he was in.

I thought he was funny in a Wife for Andy. I like these lines from him..
"Any of you ladies want to join a softball team?"
"She can't even cook a leg of lamb!"

I loved Barney! But his behavior could be grating and annoying. That's what made him so funny. He was a bundle of contradictions, nosy, buttinsky contradictions!

He was a bachelor who knew that Andy should be married. He refused to commit to Thelma Lou (he was often on the phone with Juanita from the diner) but he went ballistic if she spoke to another man. He had no children but he knew the best way to parent Opie.

He loved being a lawman but he was hopelessly inept at spotting criminal behavior. Gentleman Dan fooled him completely. In other episodes he encountered criminals who had him completely fooled. Ironically though, he could spot a piece of paper on the sidewalk thrown by an honest (yet messy) citizen and haul them in!
