shareGood question. I'm not sure. There were several episodes when Barney was working at the courthouse in the evening during the week.
The courthouse was closed on Sundays, I mean as far as conducting official business. For instance, you couldn't go in and pay a fine on Sunday. And if I recall correctly, Andy took prisoners home for Sunday dinner.
Since Andy was the sheriff he would be on call 24/7 if a crime was committed and he had to make an arrest. Sort of like a doctor is on call but not in his office all the time.
That's my feeling, too. In a small town like that, many officials would be on-call 24/7, but also, activity levels would be pretty low, so it's probably not as disruptive as we might think today.
