did andy pay aunt bee?

i mean she was their housekeeper so he did pay her something right?

or was she hooking up with mr foley

Well she was his aunt and in one episode Andy said that she had raised him. So she wasn't exactly an employee. She didn't pay rent or buy the groceries. Andy took care of all the bills. I'd guess that he also gave her spending money and bought her clothes and whatever else she needed.

Being family, I should think that Aunt Bea figured it was a fair trade - sort of room and board for free because she takes care of the household. I can't recall, but where was Aunt Bea before she came to live with them again? If she was on her own, I suspect she was happy to feel needed.

She had to have had some source of income. I recently mentioned on another thread that she once took flying lessons. Those couldn't have been cheap, even back then. In another episode, she took a job with a printing shop because she was bored when her daily household chores were done. I also remember her taking a trip in a recent episode, which also would have required resources.

I remember the flying lessons but never thought about how they were paid for. Perhaps Andy gave her a some kind of personal allowance that she could spend how she saw fit. I suspect many shows in that time period didn't trouble themselves over practical details such as money.

Good question glenEllyn, I'm not sure where she was living... In the first episode (which I just watched recently), Andy tells Opie that she "pulled up stakes" to move in with them.

I don't know if they ever said where she had been living. But I think she had been living alone.
