Pop

I thought people in the South called what we call "pop" here in the Midwest "soda." I am wrong?

reply

Pop is wrong, so is soda. "Coke" or a "cold drank."

Agreed. I never heard anyone from my town call it pop or soda...ever. We once had visitors from St. Louis, and they said pop.

Growing up, the word "Coke" was used pretty much all the time, whether it was Coke or not.

reply

I think of "pop" as being Midwest; "soda," Northeast.

I've lived in New England my entire life and have never heard anyone call it anything but 'soda'.

reply

There you go.

reply

We mostly used coke.

The easiest thing i have ever had to do was give my heart.

You probably shouldn't admit that on a public forum like this.

I've lived in the south (Fla, Tex, Ala,Tenn and NC) the majority of my life, with the exception of 3 years in Japan, and I have only heard one person call soft drinks "sody". Everyone I know calls it by its name...coke dr pepper pepsi...whatever.

reply

I’m in Michigan and we call it pop here too.

reply

I'm fine with whatever anyone wants to call it. I think most people I knew just called it by whatever brand it is. Also, I only like Cream Soda now. I really don't like Pepsi, Coke, Sprite, 7 up, or Mountain Dew. Then again I only drink Cream Soda on special occations cause it isn't healthy for me. I can't get the brand of Cream Soda I liked the most though which was A&W. Nobody sells it here in Southern Illinois anymore. I have found drinking more than one serving of it can give me a stomach ache.

reply

Well I call it soda-pop, so I am accepted by all.
