If I need to read an essay to 'get' it, I'd rather skip it

From what I gather, the attitude of Breathless is the main thing. But as a piece of entertainment, it really didn't work for me. Look, I get it, this movie says: "Go out and do it! You don't have to be Cecille B. DeMille." I assume that's what directors I respect liked about it. The same way punk rock inspired musicians. But this movie is flat out boring. The Sex Pistols may have been primitive, but they were never boring. And I'm pretty sure in the world of art, that's not something to aspire to. What in the world do people see in this movie?
