Disappointing, overrated tosh

Finally got around to watching this and now wonder quite why I bothered. This is often referred to as a landmark film but even allowing for the fact that it has not aged well, when viewed through 21st century eyes one would struggle to view it as a classic film of any genre. The plot and script - such as they exist - leave much to be desired and the acting is for the most part risible. Jean-Paul Belmondo in particular sets the bar low.

Oh really, it's stylistic and romantic in a strange way. What do you care?

I agree with you 100%---This film is VERY overrated!!!

Although Goddard went on to make a lot of great films, this one, his first, is pretty disappointing.

And I agree with you that the plot and the script are lousy, and also rather unbelievable.

I think that this film has been considered such a "classic" from the day it was released until today is because of the HYPE that surrounds "classic" films like this, and nothing more.

I agree for the most part.
