My review

I just made a review of the movie after I saw it. So, if you are interested in what I thought about it, here is the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wDVu7iTuYXI

It's interesting to read the reviews of fools like mrmath. They miss it completely. Patricia played by Jean Seberg is a very complex character. She represents the modern woman. Patricia escapes the boredom of the Midwest USA for the excitement of Paris. She wants to be independent yet her parents send her money to help support her.

She has a menial job selling newspapers in the street. Things are getting better since at the paper they like her and Patricia seems to be transitioning to reporter.

Like an old fashioned girl she gets involved with a real low life boyfriend michel who dominates her. He is very charming but good for nothing. She is under his thumb throughout most of the movie but at the end she breaks free.

The ending is ambiguous. Patricia drags her finger across her lips imitating her boyfriend who was imitating an American gangster in a movie played by the ever cool Humphrey bogart. So is Patricia on her way to being a respected reporter or does she continue to get involved in the thug life?

Wrong. It's all about the jump-cuts. That's the only thing the film has going for it. Take them away, it's pretty much dreck.

Opinions.

That's like saying the only thing starry night has going for it is the frame.

reply

Yep, it's all about the jump-cuts.
