Not One of Audie's Best

Simple, weak script.

Strongly disagree. I think this film plays beautifully to Audie's strengths (and those of Sandra Dee). He plays a naïve young man raised by his trapper uncle and his Indian wife in the mountains and is quite awed by the spectacle of life in the "big city," a frontier town in the 1870s, Casper, Wyoming. He falls for the wrong woman (Joanne Dru) with the right one right under his nose and it takes him a long time to learn his error. I found the whole thing quite believable, simply because of the way Audie and Sandra play it. I've seen most of Audie's films and this is one of the few to stray from the standard western formula he seemed most comfortable in. It's more character- than action-based.
