location and plots questions spoilers spoilers

loving this on dvd,been unfair rude to it in the past.

The plot is different from the book I think (never read it)and certainly different from the Hitchcock film.

Hannay is not Canadian or South African ,but ENGLISH.
He works is political warfare in the empire/commonwealth,why mention this detail?
Is he ex SOE? FRENCH RESISTANCE?

As for locations as a Scotsman I am enjoying trying to spot them.

There is a web site for Scottish film locations which is helpful but I still have questions.

I thought the hotel was the ATHOLL PALACE in Pitlochry but the website says the TROSSACH HOTEL?

Where is the school hall he gives the lecture in? looks like the USHER HALL in Edinburgh but it is not big enough,some sort of university lecture theatre?

Come to think of it it looks like BOROUGHMUIR SCHOOL with its fantastic gothic styling.
