Question for those with mountain climbing experience

Why doesn't anyone wear gloves when they're climbing on ropes and scaling the rugged faces of high mountains in this movie?

Obviously, if I were more than a spectator I would be able to do more than venture the guess that wearing gloves for hand protection while climbing mountains may present more hazards than they prevent; perhaps mountain climbers need to feel whatever they are grasping at all times?
