Cooper's Line Delivery

Saw this for the first time last night.
While I am a Gary Cooper fan, the delivery of his lines in this movie seem almost mechanical. He sounds like he is giving a cold reading of the dialog:

"What-was-going-through-your-mind-when-you-charged-the-gate-please-try-to-remember-and-then-tell-me-in-specifics".

No inflection whatsoever, nor did he use any contractions.
If Cooper had began his acting career using that..."method", it would not have happened for him.

I really never thought he was much of an actor anyway, but he was supposedly ill in this movie so at least that is an excuse.
I loved John Wayne, even though he wasn't much of an actor either, but he was the /Duke/ after all.

I agree, I think his delivery was pretty dry; that was really the only bad takeaway from the movie for me because when it was suppose to touch more into his emotions, it was so plain. I enjoyed it otherwise, but Cooper could've been better...
