Spot Bea Arthur's witty walk-on!

If anyone found the WAC in the New Tork diner scene familiar, then that's because it was 35 year-old Bea Arthur making her uncredited film debut! Clearly capable of handling herself, her character's lesbianism is suggested by her brushing off a sweaty, uncouth Jack Warden's bizarre opening gambit: "Hey, you remind me of my sister!" with the delicious come-back: "and you remind me of MY sister!" Unlike most reactionary 50s cinematic representations of lesbianism ('Caged' etc), which were undeniably unsympathetic, Arthur's performance and delivery makes her character more progressive in her Eve Arden-esque dry humour; making it clear what she DOESN'T want, as opposed to what she does!
