Why would they vacation in such a poor....

Why would they vacation in such a poor, trashy, spot?
They had money and could vacation anywgere, but the chose an ugly place in Spain, with scary people.
Was momma trying to get Sebastian to meet some "friends"
And then, why after all those years did the kids turn on Sebastian?
Everyone seems to be blaming Sebastian as a homo-psychopath or something, but isn't the mother more to blame, the way she "kept" him as her lover or something.

The place was remote and had a lot of poor boys - easy prey. They couldn't really go to the South of France and risk seeing people from society. As far as Violet, I don't know. Williams sure loved his Southern Gothic unhinged mothers. There was also a common thinking at the time that domineering mothers could 'make' their sons become homosexual. Even though it was a few years later, Violet and Sebastian remind me of the real Barbara Baekland and her son Anthony Baekland.

Poor spots in a vacationing make for 85-90% of the most interesting, fresh and fascinating places I've ever come across. It sometimes the element of the unexpected. It was usually a wonderful experience.

Why I didn't get was, weren't they (Cathie and Sebastian) supposedly looking for blond guys on their trip? Before falling asleep at the hospital after the sedative, she comments that he was planning to go to Sweden and other Scandinavian countries in order to meet blonds.
