I haven't seen this movie, but I'm looking at the cast and liberties taken and this seems like a terrible adaptation. Seeing as this is my favorite of Faulkner's works and one of my favorite American novels in general, it makes me a bit sad that they would skew it.

shareIt's really hard to call the movie an adaptation of the book. There are a few plot points and some character names in common, but that's about it. The movie is a sort of pale copy of The Long Hot Summer, which isn't gospel Faulkner either, but is a lot more fun.
