House and town in movie

Does anyone know what town in Louisiana this was filmed and was the Compson house a real house or a studio creation?

The whole thing looked like the back lot at Fox in the late 1950s. By 1962 they were tearing it down to put in the multi-million dollar complex built in partnership with Alcoa called century City.

The southern mansion was used for 20 years as a typical plantation house. You can see it in Tap Roots, 1947 and again in The Girl in the Red Velvet Swing, 1953. Warner Brothers may have filmed there for Auntie Mame in 1958 when Mame rides to hounds in Georgia.

The town also looks very back lot. I did notice some second unit stuff at the beginning filming in a long stretch of spreading oak trees.

Perfectly awful movie.
