I liked it

Disclaimer: Haven't read the book, but I love anything with Yul Brynner in it, and I thought Joanne Woodward was phenomenal.

Like Grisham and Osborne said in the intro, the book is unfilmable, it was just too complex.

That out of the way, we have your basic Southern Gothic -- smoldering sex, a dysfunctional family, questionable relationships. All that was missing was insanity and incest, and there were hints of that.

It was a little bit Streetcar, a little bit Long Hot Summer -- maybe a mess if we look too closely, but the sparks between Brynner and Woodward make the movie worth watching.

Sad though, seeing Brynner light up that cigarette at the end, knowing that he'd die of lung cancer.

Yul Brenner looked soooooooo HOT in this film. First time I'd ever seen him w/hair. Those smoldering eyes.....OMG!

Was he gay IRL?
