There are some claims that SOLOMON AND SHEBA (1959) is a remake of the classic spectacle by J.Gordon Edwards THE QUEEN OF SHEBA (1921) with Betty Blythe and Fritz Leiber. This viewpoint is based on facts - the content of two films is very similar being far from the real bibilical story. Yet, very few people know of the silent version which is presumed lost. Pity... By the way, THE QUEEN OF SHEBA was directed by the same director who made CLEOPATRA (1917) with Theda Bara and SALOME (1918).

What do you think about it? Is SOLOMON AND SHEBA a remake?

Ther was a remake called Solomon and Sheba with Jimmy Smits and Halle Berry. No more remakes please unless you make Sheba, Ethiopian.

I've never heard of that version. I love Jimmy Smits and wish I can see it. Anyone know if it's available anywhere? Was it a strictly made-for-tv movie?

Have not seen David and Bathsheba though.

Is anyone here aware that they remade BEN-HUR with a cast no one ever heard of, except the one who used to play LANA LANG on Smallville as BEN-HUR sister?

Yes, I saw it at the cinema a month or so ago.

Different ending. Messala wasn't killed in the chariot race, but just crippled. Later Judah and Messala kissed and made up, so to speak.

That had me running for the novel to find out what really happened.
