Why does it look better than any other Disney film?

As far as definition and color and sharpness? Even better than the little mermaid. Is it because it was shot on 70mm??

Can't speak to the quality the film, but the artists deliberately used brighter colors and stronger lines than other Disney animated films.

seeing both films on bluray the difference is astonishing, the smoothness and cleanness of Sleeping Beauty is out of this world. I consider The Little Mermaid a brilliant technical achievement, one does feel underwater, and it was made mostly handdrawn, however it doesn't look anywhere like Sleeping Beauty. It's funny, fanboys can stop raving about charlatans like Ridley Scott and Christopher Nolan's visual style and digital bullshit yet nothing has the clarity and sharpness of Sleeping Beauty or even something like Cleopatra, it's truly astonishing.

More time was spent than the animation and background designs of "Sleeping Beauty" than on any typical animated Disney film before it. They spent five years animating the characters when nowadays, they spend at least two years. The background designs took about five to eight days to complete while a typical background would took a day to complete.
