Walt Disney Records to release Walt Disney: The Legacy Collection.

With the upcoming anniversaries of Disneyland and various Disney film classics, Walt Disney Records announced that they will release a collection series on CD and digital called "Walt Disney: The Legacy Collection", which is designed to re-release soundtrack albums to great Disney classics and Disneyland, albiet with additional, previously unreleased music. The albums will be released through 2015 on noteworthy anniversaries.

Here's the release schedule for the following:

2014:

The Lion King, 20th anniversary, 6/24/14
Mary Poppins, 50th anniversary,8/26/14
Sleeping Beauty, 55th anniversary, 10/7/14
The Little Mermaid, 25th anniversary, 11/17/14

2015:

Fantasia, 75th anniversary, 1/3/15
Pinocchio, 75th anniversary, 2/3/15
Toy Story, 20th anniversary, 3/17/15
Disneyland, 60th anniversary, 4/7/15
Lady and the Tramp, 60th anniversary, 5/12/15
Pocahontas, 20th anniversary, 6/23/15
The Aristocats, 45th anniversary, 8/14/15
Cinderella, 65th anniversary, 8/14/15

Re-releasing the soundtrack album of Sleeping Beauty for its 55th anniversary will also be great business, because it might coincide with the possible Blu-Ray/DVD/Digital HD Copy release of Maleficent around the same time. I know that fans have been begging to Disney to release another soundtrack album for The Lion King, but with the complete, unabridged, and entire orchestral score by Hans Zimmer. Now it's finally happening, for we get more Hans Zimmer's music from the film on the new soundtrack, which is really fantastic.

As great as the news, I'm also a little disappointed that Walt Disney Records will not re-release the soundtrack albums of films that were released in the years with the last number in year of either a 0, 4, 5, or 9: Toy Story 2, Tarzan, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, The Black Cauldron, The Incredibles, Up, The Three Caballeros, Toy Story 3, The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad, Fantasia 2000, The Princess and the Frog, Tangled, Davy Crockett, King of the Wild Frontier, Pollyanna, The Sign of Zorro, Swiss Family Robinson, That Darn Cat!, The Love Bug, Escape to Witch Mountain, The Black Hole, The Rescuers Down Under, A Goofy Movie, Tall Tale, The Santa Clause, DuckTales the Movie: Treasure of the Lost Lamp, Dinosaur, Remember the Titans, The Tigger Movie, The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, Disney's A Christmas Carol, and TRON: Legacy. Oh, well. I would say that this the first time in a long time that Disney has paid great homage to any of their films on their anniversaries in a very long time. It's very deserving for the films to receive this special treatment to be acknowledged and admired by the company and fans for everything they brought to the world and to our lives then, now, and always.
