This whole movie is one weird scene after another, but the part in the beginning with Santa's helpers from around the world kills me every time. The American kids couldn't sing to save their lives, and the Mexican kids were over accessorized!! They recycled some of the others multiple times.
Man, I don't know how anyone can not be completely entranced by that (endless) scene. My favourite parts are the goofy expressions on Santa's face as he "plays" along with the kids. I also love how some of the songs are christmas-related, and others just seem to be randomly picked. (London Bridge is a song about christmas?) The Caribbean kids song always gets stuck in my head when I see the movie.. does anyone know what song they're singing?
There are so many strange undertones to that scene - including a somewhat pedophilic one that made my hair try to stand on end. And of course its incredibly racist with those 'African' kids with the bones in their hair! This whole movie is a wild trip...it is just jaw droppingly freakish.
What struck me was how almost depressed the kids looked. So joyless. "Okay kids, if you don't sing we're going to kill these puppies over here. And, oh yeah, if you sing we're going to kill them anyway."
Look, it was in a barn. People do a lot of stupid things in barns.

I know! That was my favorite thing about it. They looked like the film crew were holding their families hostage just behind the cameras or something. Now sing, dammit! SING!
"He's already attracted to her. Time and monotony will do the rest."
