What year was Room at the Top released? 58 or 59?

IMDB has the release date as 59, its US release, but many British books and websites have it listed as 58. This makes sense to me as it featured in the 59 BAFTA awards for films released in 58. Does anyone know if was it released in Britain in 58, and so should be listed as a 58 movie? (It's a personal favourite)

It was released in the US in 1959, but probably 1958 in the UK.

For what it's worth, the film was referenced on The Goon Show radio programme broadcast 16th Feb 1959.

Andrew Walker (critic) has the film released in January 1959. This seems consistent with reports from the British censorship office, citing the popularity of the film by Feb 1959.

I just watched this at the Liverpool Philharmonic Hall last night (it was supposed to be A Room with a View, and the distributors sent Room at the Top by mistake!); it was a very old print that even had the X certificate before the titles; I'm pretty sure the date was marked MCMLVIII - 1958.

ROOM was released in Great Britain at the end of 1958. It was filmed in the spring of that year.

It seemed to take place in 1948, what do you think?

For what it is worth at this length of time from the OP, Room at the Top had its UK premiere on January 22nd 1959 at the Plaza Theatre, Lower Regent Street, London. It went on general release in the UK from April 12th 1959 on the ABC circuit.
