Yes just watched the DVD and they were pretty dark but I didn't have much trouble figuring out which actor was in a scene. Well except the scene with the injured horse lying on the ground- It had to be in plain sight right in front of you but you really couldn't see the horse at all! I wonder if part of the problem is the use of the "day-for-night" filming technique which uses a filter to darken scenes shot in daylight to simulate nighttime. Never liked the look of it and the giveaway is all the sun shadows in these shots. I suppose were expected to think it's a full moonlit night, and it saves money not having to wait for dark to film nighttime scenes, besides not having to set up artificial lighting. These Boetticher/Scott productions were made on small budgets and pretty quickly- like in under 3 weeks.
