There's one line that was humorous

I watch this movie in a men's bad movie night gathering and one line that struck us as funny was when Vincent Price said,

"Andre had still his mind and conscience, but what if Phillipe has the murderous brain of a fly!"

We just found that very humorous with the crazy idea that flies have murder on their minds!

reply

You're right--that's the funniest line in the whole film!

You know, one of the more popular anecdotes from the first Fly film was how Vincent Price couldn't keep a straight face while shooting the spider web scene. However, I can't imagine how he kept from laughing out loud when he said this stinker of a line.

Lines like this make me love movies like this.

I know what you mean. Whenever I hear that line, all I can think about is homicidal houseflies. =)

I always wondered what the hell he was talking about! I never heard that flies were murderous! I've never seen a fly kill another insect. Or a human!! : D

i remember that line and found it hilarious too! funny the sequel is in black and white as the first is in colour, first time i've seen that happen, this is the only place i've seen that one actor outside a bogart movie, this doesn't leave as much impression as the first fly movie i think.

you don't miss your water till the well runs dry,
where richness was see the crooked sign,
dyin of drought,
lost everything in my life,
thirst for you,
not a thing i can do,
i'd give anything for just a mirage,
put my head down the sweet water lord and feel the good times ive lost.

While the word "murderous" is clearly over the top, the intent of the line was echoed in the 1986 version by Brundlefly:

"Have you ever heard of insect politics? Neither have I. Insects... don't have politics. They're very... brutal. No compassion, no compromise."

reply

I wonder if the Insect Politics speech was at all inspired from the line from Return of the Fly.

DISPLAY thy breasts, my Julia!

I didn't exactly think it was funny, per se. But I did think, "Flies... 'murderous'? What?"
