What's up with the demographics

The average vote for this film is 8.2 but females under the age of 18 vote on average 3.8. What the hell is up with that

reply

Many boys can identify themselves with Antoine Doinel, but girls can't.

reply

Yeah but the trend doesn't continue up the age groups with the girls

reply

Right, that's because girls become women, and with age comes empathy.

reply

that is one of the smartest assertions i've ever seen on these boards

reply

No, the trend DOES continue in higher-aged female voters.

Almost half the female voters over the age of 45 voted a "1" for this film! About 150-160 women out of 342 rated this movie a "1" ... or about 45% of female voters over the age of 45.

Personally, I think it's got something to do with right-wing religious groups and "family values" groups coming out and voting en mass against movies they see as not being in line with their values.

And the under-18 female voters are their daughters!

reply

So, are those "right-wing religious groups" mostly female? How do you explain the much higher approval by males? It seems to blow a hole in your theory.

Not everyone gives correct personal information to websites. I sure as hell don't.

Koalas are telepathic. Plus, they control the weather.

reply

Chicks who are around 18 are retarded, for the most part.

reply

Haha cute... at least my fellow female companions learn to appreciate this after the age of 18, right? I personally love this movie

reply

Another famous films underrated by young females. Bicicle Thieves: Males under 18 - 8.1, Females under 18 - 3.7.
Wild Strawberry: Males under 18 - 8.0, Females under 18 - 2.8.

I think because the only thing which interests the girls is "THE LOVE", and those films not about it.

Films about THE LOVE. Jules and Jim: Males under 18 - 8.9, Females under 18 - 9.7. Nights of Cabiria: Males under 18 - 9.4, females under 18 - 9.8.

reply

Wow. I'm impressed girls would watch La Notti Di Cabiria and Ladri Di Biciclette...

Just because these films have a male main protagonist does not in any way imply that girls would shun them. I saw The 400 Blows when I was 17 and loved it and just recently watched The Bicycle Thieves being 22 and enjoyed it also. I understand that some girls would not but its all due to taste not whether youre male or female.

reply

Manipulative (1-)voters prefer to use female identities.

reply

That's actually what I find more convincing--that people creating multiple accounts for voting purposes are claiming to be young females . . . probably because they're really middle-aged guys, and they figure that young females are the furthest thing away from their actual identities.

Because just like that wise Borat once says - "Woman have smaller brain than man."

reply

women's brains are 1/3 the size of men's....IT'S SCIENCE.

reply

This is so common.... I doubt that these girls even watched the film. Perhaps they just randomly rated it low because this film is higher than their favorite films.

I'd guess that most young people would find this film boring (both boys and girls), but there are a lot more film nerds who are boys than girls. This self-selected group is more likely to watch the film and rate it high, but is NOT representative of normal teenage boys.

reply

Er, women are responsible for 90% of all sh*t films getting green-lit mate. Why is this a surprise??

reply

how is this kind of misogyny acceptable?

Wow guys, way to generalize half of the world's population. And in response to brain size, it will correlate to the size of the body, and women are usually smaller then men. Also, this http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/1653687.stm says, "A team from McMaster University, Ontario, Canada, found that women have up to 15% more brain cell density in certain areas of the frontal lobe, which controls so-called higher mental processes." I'm 19, female, and rated this movie a 10, and am not fond of stupid straight romances or rom-coms, or the load of crap Hollywood likes to churn out most of the time. So please don't stereotype just to make yourselves feel better.
