1000 francs in 1959 - how much would that be today?

Antoine's mother promised him 1000 francs if his next French essay was among the five best essays. Could anyone tell me how much 1000 francs in 1959 would be worth today?

In 1959 it was still the old Francs, so you need to divide it by 100 if you want to get the new Francs amount, so 10 new Francs. Today it's 1.5 € or $, but in this years these 1.5 $ hadn't the same value.

To give you an idea, a "baguette" bread costed 38 "old" francs in 1960 and workers earned a guaranteed minimum hourly wage of 160 francs. So 1000 francs would have represented something like a half day's wage for Antoine's mother.
